Thailand has reported the discovery of a new and more dangerous strain of Mpox. The country announced this news today, Wednesday (August 21).

Thongchai Kerathihatthayakorn, the head of the state’s Disease Control Department, told AFP that the infected patient is a European citizen who had traveled to Thailand from an African country. Laboratory tests are underway to confirm the strain, but officials suspect it originated from clade 1. The infected individual has been quarantined in the hospital.
Thongchai told AFP, ‘We conducted a test. They definitely have Mpox, and it is definitely not clade 2.’
